耶稣会弟子罗,讳德先,号慎斋,泰西拂郎济亚国人。缘慕贞修,弃家遗世,在会四十一年。于康熙三十八年已卯东来中华,至康熙五十四年乙未九月二十三日卒于顺天府,年六十九岁。

Tomb of Disciple Luo of the Society of Jesus
Disciple Luo of the Society of Jesus, given name Dexian, style name Shenzhai, was a native of the country of Francia in the Far West. Driven by admiration for devout practice, he left his home and abandoned worldly life. He was in the Society for forty-one years. In the 38th year of the Kangxi reign (1699), he came east to China. He passed away in Shuntian Prefecture on the 23rd day of the 9th month in the 54th year of the Kangxi reign (1715), at the age of sixty-nine.

Brother Bernard Rhodes, a French man, educated as temporal coadjutor, was in the Society for 40 years, and in the mission in China for 16 years. He died when returning from Tartary [Mongolia] , on November 10th in the Year of Our Lord 1715, at the age of 70 years.
