    苏先生讳霖,号沛苍,系大西洋波耳都嘎里亚国人。自幼真修。于康熙二十三年岁次甲子入中国。于康熙戊辰年钦召进京,内廷供奉。卒于乾隆元年八月初十日,蒙钦赐绶银二百两。在会六十三年,享寿八十一岁。

    Tomb of Father Su of the Society of Jesus
    Father Su, personal name Lin, style name Peicang, was a native the kingdom of Portugal from the Atlantic Ocean. From a young age he has cultivated true faith. In the 23rd year of the Kangxi reign (1684), jiazi year, he came to China. In the wuxu year of the Kangxi reign he was summoned to Beijing and served in the imperial court. He passed away on the tenth day of the eighth month in the yuan year of the Qianlong reign (1736) and was granted a ribbon and two hundred taels of silver by the emperor. He was in the society for sixty-three years, and lived to the age of eighty-one.

    Father Joseph Suarez, of the Society of Jesus, a Portuguese, having been professed in four vows, lived in the China Mission for fifty-two years, from which he spent forty-eight in Beijing, where he full of merits and age left us in the Lord on the fourteenth day of September in the Year of Christ 1736, of the age eighty-one, having been a member of the Society for sixty-three years.
