皇帝谕祭原任通政使司通政使，加二级又加一级，掌钦天监印务事，故汤若望之灵曰：鞠躬尽瘁，臣子之芳踪。恤死报勤，国家之盛典。尔汤若望，来自西域，晓习天文，特畀象历之司。爰锡“通微教师”之号。遽尔长逝，朕用悼焉。特加恩恤，遣官致祭。呜呼！聿垂不朽之荣，庶享匪躬之报。尔如有知，尚克歆享。康熙八年十一月十六日。

Tomb of the Jesuit Father Tang Gong
By imperial command, a memorial sacrifice is offered to the late Tongzheng (Counsellor) of the Tongzheng Office, promoted two ranks and then yet another rank, who also held charge over the Seal Affairs of the Imperial Astronomical Bureau.
To the spirit of the late Tang Ruowang it is said:
You bowed in utmost diligence, leaving a noble example for all ministers and subjects. To comfort you in death and repay your loyal service is a grand rite of the state. You, Tang Ruowang, came from the Western Regions, well-versed in astronomy, and were specially entrusted with the Office of Calendrical Affairs.
We cherished you with the title “Master of Subtle Comprehension.” But suddenly you passed away, and We are grieved. We specially extend Our grace in condolence, sending officials to offer sacrifices. Alas! May this banner of undying honor be displayed, that you may receive rewards beyond self-interest. If you have awareness, may you be gladdened to partake of this offering.
Dated the sixteenth day of the eleventh month in the eighth year of the Kangxi reign (December 30, 1669).

汤先生讳若望，号道未，大西洋日尔玛你亚国人也。自幼入耶稣会。于明天启甲子年，来中华衍教。崇祯庚子年，钦取修历。至顺治二年，清朝特用新法，恩赉有加。卒于康熙四年乙卯，寿七十有五。
Chinese—English
Father Tang, personal name Ruowang, style name Daowei, was a man from the great Western Ocean, the Kingdom of Germany. From his youth he entered the Society of Jesus.
In the jiazi year of the Tianqi reign (1624), he came to China to spread the faith.
In the gengzi year of the Chongzhen reign (1640), he was, by imperial command, appointed to reform the calendar.
By the second year of the Shunzhi reign (1645), the Qing court adopted the new method, and he was specially favored with imperial rewards.
He died in the yimao year of the Kangxi reign (1665) at the age of seventy-five.

Father Johann Adam Schall, of Cologne, a professed member of the Society of Jesus,
lived in the Society for fifty-eight years, of which he spent forty-seven on the work of the Gospel in the Kingdom of China.
Summoned by the Emperor to the court, he collaborated in his studies with Giacomo Rho,
and, having published many books, corrected the Chinese calendar,
which, with the applause of the whole realm, he caused to be adopted.
He died in Beijing in the Year of Salvation 1666, on the 15th day of August,
at the age of seventy-five.
