    先生讳直方,号正义,泰西波尔都嗄尔亚国人。自幼入会真修。乾隆九年甲子,传教至澳门。乾隆十年五月十五日,奉旨到京,本年十月初五日卒世。在会十年,享年二十七岁。

    Tomb of Father Wu of the Society of Jesus
    Father Wu, personal name Zhifang, style name Zhengyi, a Portuguese from West Europe. At a young age he was initiated into the Society and cultivated true faith. In the ninth year of the Qianlong reign, jiazi year (1744), he came to Macao to preach. On the fifteenth day of the fifth month in the tenth year of the Qianlong reign, he was summoned to Beijing, and passed away on the fifth day of the tenth month in the same year. He was in the Society for ten years, and lived to the age of twenty-seven.

    Father Bartolomeu de Azevedo of the Society of Jesus, a Portuguesem having been born in the year 1719, having entered into the society in the year 1735, came to Beijing in the year 1745, where in the same year he died on the twenty-ninth day of October. He was certainly a man of immense hope and having been educated in respect to many arts and virtues.
